Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot developed by OpenAI and launched in November 2022.

The app allows users to create chats and engage in conversations with an AI.

Curious about the future of Nollywood in the next few years, I asked AI about it and received this in response:

Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry, has experienced significant growth and evolution in recent years.

As we look to the future, there are several trends and developments that may shape the direction of the industry:

1. International collaborations: Nollywood has already begun collaborating with other film industries, such as Hollywood and Bollywood, and this trend is likely to continue.

Such collaborations can help Nollywood access new markets, learn new techniques and technologies, and increase the visibility of Nigerian cinema on the global stage.

2. Emphasis on quality: Nollywood is increasingly focusing on producing high-quality films that meet international standards.

This includes improving technical aspects such as sound, lighting, and cinematography, as well as investing in quality scripts and talent.

3. Diversification of content: While Nollywood is known for its prolific output of drama and romance films, there is an increasing trend towards diversifying content.

This includes producing more horror, comedy, and action films, as well as exploring social and political issues.

4. Digital distribution: With the rise of streaming services and online platforms, Nollywood is likely to continue to explore digital distribution as a way to reach new audiences and expand its reach.

Overall, the future of Nollywood is promising, and the industry is poised to continue to grow and evolve in exciting ways.

I was also curious to know what the financial future of Nollywood employees was looking like, so I asked.

The response I received to this resonated with my thoughts on the topic:

The financial future of Nollywood employees can vary greatly depending on a number of factors, including their level of experience, the roles they play in film production, and their negotiating power. Here are some trends that may affect the financial future of Nollywood employees:

1. Increasing salaries: As Nollywood continues to grow and evolve, there may be an upward trend in salaries for employees, particularly for more experienced actors, directors, and producers.

This could be driven by increased demand for their services, as well as a desire to attract and retain top talent.

2. Improved working conditions: In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the need to improve working conditions for Nollywood employees, particularly those working behind the scenes.

This includes efforts to improve safety standards, provide better equipment and facilities, and ensure fair compensation for work done.

3. Diversification of revenue streams: Nollywood employees may benefit from the industry’s increasing focus on digital distribution, as this could lead to more opportunities for revenue sharing and royalties.

4. Competition from new entrants: While Nollywood has traditionally been the dominant player in the African film industry, there are new entrants emerging, particularly in countries such as Ghana and South Africa.

This could lead to increased competition for roles and potentially lower salaries.

Overall, the financial future of Nollywood employees is likely to be shaped by a range of factors, including changes in the industry, competition from new entrants, and improvements in working conditions and revenue sharing arrangements.

My research on Chat GPT so far says that it can be used for customer service, personal assistant applications, automated customer support, and more.

The engine is “trained” (programmed and reinforced) to mimic writing styles, avoid certain types of conversations, and learn from your questions.

According to experts, this technology has the potential to cut down development time. This could be a great tool for writers to deal with writers block.

These days I find myself mentally gravitating towards AI and how this form of support can aid not just creatives and technicians, but also executives in improving the Nollywood experience for everyone involved.

This is indeed a promising future to look forward to and I am constantly seeking opportunities to contribute in this process.

This is a win for the industry and I hope we as a collective in the industry are willing to embrace it with open hands, moderation and optimism.
